Are you an immigrant nurse, doctor, or other licensed healthcare professional who is currently out of the job market? Then you are welcome to the course Introduction to Healthcare.
Introduction to Healthcare is a commissioned education program from Region Sörmland in collaboration with the Employment Service (Arbetsförmedlingen).
The course is aimed at those with a medical education from a country other than Sweden, who are in the process of seeking a Swedish professional license.
Purpose of the course
Introduction to Healthcare is not an ”ordinary” Swedish course. It is a professionally oriented introduction aimed at facilitating your path to work in the healthcare sector with Region Sörmland as a potential employer.
The goal is to:
- Develop your Swedish language skills with a focus on healthcare terminology.
- Provide you with an introduction to the organization, system, and conditions of Swedish healthcare.
- Increase your chances of successfully passing the knowledge tests of the National Board of Health with the support of education.
Course content
- Swedish language SFI C-C1/SVA3 (Socialstyrelsen requirements)
- Healthcare Swedish
- Swedish healthcare system
- Swedish healthcare culture
- Record keeping
- Preparation for knowledge tests in your profession
You will study full-time, 40 hours per week. 20–25 hours are teacher-led lessons, while the rest of the time is spent on independent study. The course lasts for six months.
Admission requirements
The course is part of the establishment mission aimed at newcomers. Even if you belong to the target group and are seeking employment under the Job and Development Guarantee, you can apply for a course place. We prioritize participants residing in Sörmland.
To be admitted, you need to have a license issued in another country for one of the following healthcare professions:
- Occupational therapist
- Audiologist
- Midwife
- Biomedical scientist
- Dietitian
- Physiotherapist
- Healthcare counselor
- Speech therapist
- Doctor
- Psychologist
- Psychotherapist
- Radiology nurse
- Nurse
- Nursing assistant
You must have started the process of having your education reviewed and approved by the National Board of Health. You must be registered with the Employment Service. No prior knowledge of Swedish is required.
Costs and finances
The course costs you nothing. You will be compensated through the Employment Service’s establishment program or the Job and Development Guarantee. You are not entitled to student aid from CSN.
How to apply
Applications and admissions are ongoing as places become available.
Apply by contacting the course coordinator (see contact information below). You will then be invited to an interview where we will discuss your prior knowledge, needs, and goals, as well as decisions from the National Board of Health.
If you are admitted, you will be notified no later than three weeks after the interview.
Course certificate
After completing the course, you will receive a course certificate. You have the opportunity to obtain a C1 certificate or qualification in Swedish as a second language 3, which is required to apply for a Swedish license.
